Whatever it is that is your epic dream, I want you to know that I believe in you. And, like Obama’s famous campaign stated: “Yes, you can!”

If I can do what I did this weekend, then I know you can have your dream too.

I had a huge success, something I had been too afraid to even dream, let alone go for it.

I have never been all that athletic, and I’m less flexible than most women are naturally. When I took my first yoga class in 1992 with my Dad at the War Memorial in Grosse Pointe, MI, (looking back, I can’t even believe they had a yoga class there!) my Dad and I were usually the least flexible people in the room. Mind you, I was 22 at the time.

Now, I’m 46, quite a bit heavier than I was then, and even less flexible. I’d been going to my yoga studio fairly regularly for about 10 months. Once we moved to CA, that was one of the first things I looked for … a good yoga studio.

I had done yoga intermittently through the years, and started to feel a longing for a deeper practice. I found this amazing place in Yorba Linda, called Yoga Sol. They had gentle classes daily which allowed me to slowly move into my practice. I was less fit than ever before in my life, so these classes were a godsend.

In summer, they added a new class to the schedule, and my favorite yoga teacher, Tina, was teaching it. It was a Kundalini yoga class … not a beginning class of a gentle class. I took a risk and tried the class out.

I was so proud of myself for 1) getting out of my comfort zone and trying it, even though I had no idea if I could do it and was afraid of failing; and 2) being willing to look foolish and to fail publicly.

During that first class, Tina said something that I will always remember. She said that we were getting 80% of the benefit, just from showing up. I just love this simple wisdom!

I bumbled through the class and did the best I could. And, I continued to show up.

I would stay after class and ask Tina questions so I could deepen with my practice. During one of these conversations, Tina asked me if I wanted to do Yoga Teacher Training.

I was shocked. I looked at her like she was crazy. I knew she knew my physical limitations. I knew she knew that I had weight to lose.

I’ll share the rest of the story in my next e-mail.

In the meantime, I’d love to get on the phone with some of you and ask you some questions. If you’re serious about making your epic dreams come true, and you want to help me help you do that, email kavita@epicdreamacademy.com and we’ll connect further.

Love and gratitude,
